Two Mistakes to Avoid When you are Social Marketing – One Minute Read

The biggest trend nowadays is to get in on Social marketing to promote your work and there is a lot of choice . It starts with Blogging, then you have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Linked In and we can go on and on.

Overall the large amount of choice can be quite stressful for many new people as they start their business or want to grow their business more. So what do you do, I would like to suggest two things not to do so you have more success and less stress.

Two key mistakes I have been taught to avoid again and again in Social Marketing

Number one Mistake
Be Inconsistent in Activity
When you choice a platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram….your own blog) it is really important you make a plan in terms of your activity on the platform. Post a reminder on Google calendar, whatever you have to do to follow the plan.

Why? The search engines like consistent fresh and unique content. Now you have fresh and unique ideas but if you post once every week for a month. Then seven days straight. Then once every three days. Sure you have posted fresh and unique content but the secret is that the search engine will not like you unless you have consistent posting behavior. I heard this but I did not listen till I learned it the hard way, from my mistake.

Learn from my error that dropped this site from being in the top 500,000 sites of millions to non existent.

Mistake Number Two
Make it all about you.
I have heard all the experts on social media today including experts like Gary Vaynerchuk say if all you are doing is shouting about yourself, get off the network. You need to be listening, sharing interesting and valuable content but not trying to always sell, sell, sell. Then once you have shown you are a valuable source eventually (maybe not as fast as you want) but eventually people will ask you for more of what you have to offer and they will be willing to pay for it.

Okay, I think the one minute is up. I hope this was a valuable reminder for you.

All the best,
David

P.S. I just listened to Gary Vaynerchuk being interviewed on a Success CD. I recommend you check out his new book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World
