A new Canadian lead study just completed that involved 6,000 participants suggests that 90 percent of the risk of having a stroke is preventable through lifestyle changes.

Dr. O’ Donnell and Dr. Yusuf of McMaster University studied stroke patients from 22 countries over a period of 3 years and their findings suggest ten risk factors associated with over 90 percent of the incidents of stroke.

Quoting from the study published in The Lancet here the interpretation of the study was as follows “Targeted interventions that reduce blood pressure and smoking, and promote physical activity and a healthy diet, could substantially reduce the burden of stroke”

If you like to take preventative action to keep your mind and body strong I highly recommend you take action daily to help keep your health and wellness strong. I personally take action daily by being conscious of what I eat, how I think and my level of physical activity.

If you are interested, you can pick up a Free copy of my electronic stress reduction work book via the request form on the top right of this page. You can check out some of the helpful guides I have written here, and depending on your personal situation you can check with your doctor and see if, as recommended by Dr. Hakin in the CBC report of the study, you may wish to invest in a blood pressure cuff. For one example of a blood pressure cuff you can follow this link to read about the Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff. It currently has 884 customer reviews including review by Doctors. Please note: I do recommend as always if you are going to buy a health related product check with your own Doctor first to see what he or she says. I am only sharing this information for educational purposes.

Best of health to you,

I just read a posting on the Broken Secrets Blog and it reminded me that a wonderful way to enhance the appearance and health of your home or office space is to put some plants in these areas. This is because as you most likely know plants produce oxygen during the day so their presence can help support our health. But did you know that there are plants that produce oxygen at night? It is true – so you can place a night time oxygen producing plant in your bedroom. In addition, there are also plants that can remove toxins like formaldehyde from the air in your home or office.

As you may know I am an active hiker but I am definitely no expert on plants so I recommend you check out one of the best books on choosing the right fresh air plants for your home or work space. It is based on 25 years of research by NASA. It is called How to Grow Fresh Air. It is important to do research like reading a book like this for a start to make sure you are aware of all the features of plants you choose. Since some indoor plants may produce a lot of oxygen but they may also be toxic to some animals or children. So to make sure you make the right choices follow this link to learn more about the book How to Grow Fresh Air: 50 Houseplants That Purify Your Home or Office

All the best,

I am always reading to learn more about health and wellness so I can share more with you and my clients. One kind of book I am reading more of recently are the electronic kind, more precisely PDF documents.

When I was reading one of Seth Godin’s e-books I found a tip worth sharing that I hope will help you experience less eye strain when you are reading a PDF document.

The tip is this:

On your keypad hold down the control button and press the letter L. This will shift the screen into a full view mode that is easier on the eyes. You can move forward page by page using the up down arrows on your keyboard. When you want to move back to your regular screen view you simply press the escape key at any time.

Share this it is helpful – thanks again Seth!

Enjoy a great day,

David

By the way, you can read about Seth Godin’s most recent book by following this link Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?
