A new Canadian lead study just completed that involved 6,000 participants suggests that 90 percent of the risk of having a stroke is preventable through lifestyle changes.

Dr. O’ Donnell and Dr. Yusuf of McMaster University studied stroke patients from 22 countries over a period of 3 years and their findings suggest ten risk factors associated with over 90 percent of the incidents of stroke.

Quoting from the study published in The Lancet here the interpretation of the study was as follows “Targeted interventions that reduce blood pressure and smoking, and promote physical activity and a healthy diet, could substantially reduce the burden of stroke”

If you like to take preventative action to keep your mind and body strong I highly recommend you take action daily to help keep your health and wellness strong. I personally take action daily by being conscious of what I eat, how I think and my level of physical activity.

If you are interested, you can pick up a Free copy of my electronic stress reduction work book via the request form on the top right of this page.

Whether you work in front of a computer all day or in front of people all day life can definitely be stressful and some people smoke to reduce the impact of stress on their body. But most of us know that smoking can lead to lung cancer and we eventually quit smoking.

What can you do if you have quit smoking and you want to strengthen your body against the possibility of cancer occurring?

Well, research from a European long term study involving over half a million participants study has indicated that people with high levels of B6 and methionine in their blood stream may be less at risk for lung cancer.

The study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates once again how our diet can have a great impact on how our body manages stress.

Notes on B6, Methionine and food sources:

The B vitamins help to maintain the health of the nerves and reduce the impact of mental and physical stress on the body. B 6 also known as Pyridoxine can be found in food including but are not limited to carrots, eggs, spinach, chicken, peas and brown rice. (Reference: Prescription for Nutritional Healting.)

Methionine is an essential amino acid that assists in the breakdown of fats in the body helping prevent a build up of fat in the liver and arteries that may block blood flow to the brain, heart and other organs. It is also a powerful antioxidant which might explain why it help reduce the impact of smoking. Methionine sources in food include garlic, onions, eggs and lentils. (Reference: Prescription for Nutritional Healting.)

As you know I am not a Doctor so when you make any dietary changes see professional medical advice. I simply wish to keep you up to date.

By the way, if you don’t have a copy of Prescription for Nutritional Healing (over 5 million copies have been sold) this book shows which foods contain certain vitamins and minerals. I have a copy and I recommend you get a copy. Simply follow this link Prescription for Nutritional Healing to read more about this book and other books like it.

Also, if you wish to read the full details on this report you can read the scientific report here (it is technical). You can also read samples of news reports here and here.

Best Wishes,

I just read a news article on the BBC site located here that brought to my attention the idea of smart clothing sometimes called intelligent clothing, sometimes called wearable electronics. The clothing is being designed to monitor physiological states including temperature and heart rate. The clothing is connected wirelessly to a database that checks the data to access the person’s emotional state and then can send messages to the wearer to calm them.

I am just sharing this with you. I am not sure if it is a good idea since there is already scientific controversy over the possible negative impact of having electromagnetic devices like cellular / portable phones close to the body. The impact of wearing wired clothing on the body is a whole other or similar issue.
What do you think?

David

P.S. I thought I would do some research to see what is already on the market. I did find a wearable mini cam recorder that fits in your shirt pocket (you could record your day with this!) Check out how small it is by going to Wearable Video Camera.

In addition, I found a Mini Wearable Travel Air Purifier for less than 20 us dollars – I never knew this existed. It is so light apparently you can wear it around your neck.

However, I did not find any clothing for sale just a book called New Nomads: An Exploration of Wearable Electronics but maybe the clothing will be available soon…
