We all experience some sort of stressful events in our lives. It can be positive stress called Eustress or negative stress called Distress. Stress has so many causes I will not even start to mention them but the effect of any stress is always (as you and I both know) how we respond to the event.
I like to believe we have two choices when we experience a stressful event (although there most likely are more).
Choice A is to return to our ‘Fight or Flight’ instinct and go crazy at the smallest stressor. This will surely lead you to become part of the 60 to 90 percent of Doctor’s appointments that are due to stress related illnesses.
Choice B is to laugh in the face of Stress. Research has already proven that Laughter is medically sound medicine for the immune system. Read the classic book ‘Anatomy of an Illness‘ by Norman Cousins as an introduction. It is one of the first books ever written by a patient talking about how to actively particpate in one’s own healing. It is one example of a man who helped cure a terminal illness with laughter.
I like to suggest a couple of ways to put more laughter in your life are as follows (although there are many more).
* Buy a cartoon book and place it close by your washroom mirror so you see it each morning. There is nothing like trying to clean your teeth while giggling. Perhaps, you like The Far Side or Calvin and Hobbes whatever you like is the cure.
* Suggest to the manager at your work or better yet, the owner of your company to have a ‘Funny Movie of the Month’ night or lunch time when everyone gets together to laugh the stress away. You most likely have a few funny movie favourites of your own.
Here are some of my favorite classics:
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Fawlty Towers Any Episode
The Pink Panther Movies new and old
Enjoy every moment (whenever possible!),
